Purchase Art work donated by Doreen Kalmakoff with proceeds going to Blaine Lake’s new Library. Doreen, a founding member of the 12-40 and Beyond Artisans Driving Tour, worked with a variety of media, with creations ranging in size from miniature paintings to large scale murals found in Marcelin, Leask and Blaine Lake. The Blaine Lake Library venue #8 will display and offer for sale the paintings of Doreen Kalmakoff. Mrs. Kalmakoff is generously donating the proceeds from the sale of her works to Blaine Lake’s new library.
Blaine Lake Library opened in April 1973 after several years of negotiations with the Town and RM of Blaine Lake. The town and RM played a major role in funding so their approval and support was necessary. The original library was located in the basement of the Town/RM office. In October 1983 the library moved to the CNR station building. In 1975 the North Central Library, of which each town library is a subsidiary, was renamed Wapiti Regional Library. At the present time the library is preparing to move to the new Community Centre (formerly the Gospel Chapel).
Doreen Kalmakoff had a teaching career in Blaine Lake from 1959-2002 where she taught Art and Drama. She was also an artist and invaluable community volunteer. The Blaine Lake mural project was founded by her and several other volunteers. Doreen designed the murals and assisted in painting them. As you drive around town you can enjoy the exceptional and masterful talent that is displayed in these works of art.
The Spirit of the Prairie Art and Teaching Studio at the Kalmakoff farm was another successful undertaking of Doreen’s. Here she taught painting classes and other art forms.

r and opened her home as venue #3 on the tour for several years.

Don Skopyk is a retired shop teacher who creates table tops from found wood and resin. He gathers most of his wood while travelling through the winter months. The samples of used wood he has brought from Greece and Israel.
Sizes of tables range from coffee table size to small round side tables. He also makes table legs in a variety of styles.

Crystal Ruchotzke welcomes you into her corner of the world, with a multitude of creative, inspiring art, showing her love of refinished/repurposed solid wood furniture and bottle art focusing on and honoring the female image, capturing movement and dance.
Also other art forms include barn wood, resin, and crochet. Crystal invites you to visit the Old Ottawa School house and step into reliving the past with the warmth of old friends & make new ones. It is the home of future art classes.

Glen Bloom started making stainless steel grave markers for family members whose markers needed
replacement.
He has since begun taking custom orders for others.
Glen gets great enjoyment from the families’ happiness at being able to permanently mark the grave of a loved one.
He will also create decorative and commemorative Plaques for buildings or monuments.

Both Carmen and Diane have been crafting items as hobbies for nearly 40 years.
Carmen uses reclaimed wood to make signs, baskets and other items; he also works with live edge wood.
Diane designs and crochets her creations as Afghans, dish cloths, scarves along with Christmas and Pine Cone Wreaths. Diane also enjoys working with diamond art.

K&B Denim Creations and More creates useful items out of gently used denim (usually your old blue jeans!). They specialize in moccasin style slippers made with denim and fleece in a wide range of sizes up to Men’s size 15 that can be tossed into the washing machine whenever they need to be cleaned!
After living in Saskatoon for more than 30 years Bill and Kathleen decided it was time to try village life. They chose the Leask area because of the friendly community, the close proximity to both Saskatoon and Prince Albert and the short drive to many regional lakes. In February 2018, they purchased Denim Creations Made by Pat and after spending the first months training with Pat they moved the business 10 minutes up the road to Leask. They continue to make slippers and other items from gently used denim.

John Chin is a visual artist who enjoys the vastness and beauty of the prairies. Some of the evening skies here are amazingly spectacular and he often captures them on his canvases, as well as our lakes, trees, night skies and occasionally the northern lights. Besides painting on canvases and paper, he does silk scarf-painting, depicting his favourite flowers and landscapes.
Located at SE 30-45-04-03 EXT 2, 9 miles/14.5km east on grid road 454 towards the Wyngard Ferry at the corner of grid road 454 and the Carlton Trail.
